Homebound: Taiwan aims to connect Taiwanese diaspora with their motherland.
Hey, I’m Gi (謝宜庭).
I’m a Taiwanese American woman living and working in Taipei and I created this platform to share my love for this little island that I now call home.
I grew up in NYC and moved to Taipei in during the Covid pandemic. Honestly, I never had any intention of moving back here but at that point, the rest of the world was closed and Taiwan was the only place to go.
So, I took a leap of faith and considered it an opportunity to connect with family.
I moved back in with my dad and grandma, took mandarin classes at MTC, and built my little group of expat Taiwanese diaspora friends. At some point about a two years in, I realized that somehow, I had begun to consider this place my permanent home.
So, this platform is for those in between two worlds. For those who never felt like they belonged. For those who exist in the hyphen between identities.
It’s a reminder that there’s no need to choose one or the other and that your unique experience in between is what makes you so special.
I love Taiwan so much and hope that through this blog, you can come to love it as well.
